Italian white wine has gone through many phases: overly oxidised before the introduction of stainless steel in the 1960s; overly commericalized wines from regions like Gavi; fresh, clean, quality wines from Friuli; and the re-emergence of quality wines from historic regions like Verdicchio de Matelica.
